"Theosophy and the
Theosophical Order of Service"

        Light Net Inc. and the Ageless Wisdom Library are hosting a FREE Lecture on "Theosophy and the Theosophical Order of Service" to be conducted by resource speakers from the Theosophical Society in the Philippines on August 20, 2006, Sunday, 1-6 pm (including the additional lecture) in Manila, Philippines (see sketch of Venue).

       Madam Helena P. Blavatsky (1831-1891), Russian, was the founder of the Theosophical Society in 1875 and the one who introduced the moden presentation of the Ageless Wisdom to the world, which she named "Theosophy". Theosophy came from two greek words, 'theos' meaning God and 'sophia' meaning Wisdom. The Theosophical Society, which she founded to disseminate this wisdom teaching, have 3 stated objectives: (1) To form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of Humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or color; (2) To encourage the study of Comparative Religion, Philosophy and Science; and (3) To investigate unexplained laws of Nature and the powers latent in man. HPB's two monumental books - "The Secret Doctrine" and "Isis Unveiled" were the predecessors of the 24 Books of Esoteric Philosophy authored by Alice A. Bailey. These books form a continuum of esoteric techings being revealed to humanity by the Great Ones or Those who have already graduated from the Schools of Wisdom.

       In 1908 Annie Besant, then international president of the Theosophical Society, and herself an activist of great social conscience, founded the Theosophical Order of Service (TOS). Many members of the Society wanted to organize various lines of service for the active promotion of the First Object of the Society: To form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or color. TOS offers a framework in which individuals may demonstrate practical and humanitarian actions in a theosophical spirit, whether or not they are members of the Theosophical Society.

        "Theosophy must not represent merely a collection of moral verities, a bundle of metaphysical ethics epitomized in theoretical dissertation. Theosophy must be made practical, and has, therefore to be disencumbered of useless discussion. . .. It has to find objective expression in an all-embracing code of life thoroughly impregnated with its spirit--the spirits of mutual tolerance, charity and love. Its followers have to set the example of a firmly outlined and as firmly applied morality before they get the right to point out, even in a spirit of kindness, the absence of a like ethical unity and singleness of purpose in other associations and individuals."
